Corrugated cardboard boxes for packaging of dangerous goods

Under certain conditions, dangerous goods may endanger life, property and the environment. Therefore, the national supervisory authorities pay more attention to this, and they have custom-made a set of standards for container materials, packaging technology and packaging marks for dangerous goods packaging. Its packaging containers are many, such as steel drums, plastic drums (cans), hard fiberboard drums, etc. Corrugated cardboard boxes are also one of the more important ones.

Dangerous goods refer to goods that require special protection because they are explosive, flammable, poisonous, corrosive, radioactive, and other characteristics. During transport, loading, unloading and storage, they are likely to cause personal injury or death and damage to property. The corrugated carton has excellent pressure resistance, anti-jamming and moisture-proof properties, and has a very strong protective effect on commodities. And it has a good tightness, which is more suitable for the packaging of dangerous goods.

basic requirements

Corrugated cartons used for packaging dangerous goods can be divided into two categories: general corrugated cartons, including single corrugated cartons and double corrugated boxes; heavy corrugated cartons, including 4-layer to 7-layer (composite) heavy corrugated cartons. “General Technical Conditions for Transport of Dangerous Goods” (hereinafter referred to as “conditions”) stipulates that corrugated boxes should have a certain bending performance, should have no cracks when cutting, creasing, and have no cracks, no skin breaks, or excessive bending when assembled. The layers should be firmly bonded. Box joints, the use of adhesive tape, lap glue, or lap and nailed with a steel nail or U-shaped nails. c In addition, the lap joint should be properly weighed. If the seal is glued or taped, a water-resistant adhesive should be used. Its maximum net weight is 400kg.

"Conditions" stipulates the marking code for the carton. The single-package corrugated carton code is 4G1. "4" indicates the type of the container, and other items such as buckets are represented by "1" and bags are indicated by "5". The "G" indicates that the container is made of corrugated cardboard.

Testing standards

In order to ensure the safety of the transport and storage of dangerous goods, the "Conditions" set the standards for the detection of the performance of corrugated boxes.

* Stacking test: The stacking height of the ground transport is 3 m, and the sea transport is 8 m; the duration is 24 hours to one week. If the container does not change its strength and does not cause stacking instability, it is acceptable.

* Drop test: must go through 5 drops. The first time is flat with the bottom of the box (3); the second time is with the top of the box (1); the third time is flat with one long side (2 or 4); the fourth time with a short side (5 or 6) Flat down; the fifth time it fell at an angle (1-2-5 angle). In terms of drop height, the standards for Class I, II, and III packages are 1.80m, 1.20m, and 0.80m, respectively. The results of the test shall not have any damage that will affect the safety of transportation. In particular, the package containing explosives must not be broken. The inner layer or inner coating of the package must still maintain good protection performance.

Packaging logo

The eye-catching and easy-to-understand logo can serve as a good warning, which is especially important for dangerous goods. The "Conditions" have detailed provisions on the type, name, size, and color of the pictorial symbols of dangerous goods packaging. There are a total of 21 kinds of logos, 19 names, their graphics are marked with the explosion, flammable, toxic, corrosive, radioactive and other hazards.

The location of the sticker should be on the face or side of the corrugated box. Except for the fact that the packaging is too small to paste or print smaller marks, the mark should not be less than 100mm x 100mm. If an item has two dangerous properties, the main and sub marks must be attached according to the number of ingredients. In addition, the mark should be marked by the production unit before the goods are shipped from the factory. If the packaging is changed after delivery, the packaging unit will change the mark.
