Digital printing and digital printing machine example analysis (Part 2)

11. Create customized directories on the Internet

DB Publishing exhibited the latest technology of its product Catalog Genie: creating a custom catalog interface from a web browser, which provides the same catalog creation interface as the unique version of Catalog Genie. Once you have a product database, you can select the products and product types you need in the customized catalog, and the only thing you can't do in the network version is to fail to update the database.

A seller who has only a part of the manufacturer ’s product line is likely to use this tool to select data from the manufacturer ’s database to build a customized catalog, or sales representatives working in a certain field can also use this tool to A large customer creates a customized catalog. Based on a standard template library, you can create useful product catalogs with little or no work in the office.

12. Servers for color copiers and printing presses are establishing their status

Companies providing servers for color copiers and digital printing machines are in a fierce competition. Although they have different starting points, they are working in the same direction. For example, Splash, EFI and T / R Systems Machines of manufacturers (OEM sellers or their chains) provide servers as targets. Among them, EFI and T / R are very interested in providing multi-machine driver software and universal software that adapts to different types of equipment and meets the product requirements of different manufacturers. And this goal is exactly the goal that Advanced HiTech has been working hard for. AHT can now provide variable data software suitable for Atlas' ColorFlare and OneRIP products. For many server providers, the current main task is to consolidate their strategic position in the market.

Thirteen, the new server series logo Splash changes

Splash, which produced servers and turned color copiers into digital printers, launched a new series of products (T200 family) and announced a new alliance with Ikon Office Solutions.

The new server series is innovative in several ways. It is significantly different from the earlier Splash servers in appearance. It is small in size (only the size of a briefcase), light in weight (14 pounds), and has a color LCD Touch the exhibition interface. Its internal operating system uses Linux (Splash first used this operating system).

Another remarkable thing is that Canon printing presses also adopted this kind of server for the first time. In the past, Splash focused mainly on the Xerox market (indeed, it also provided one of the first two controllers for Xerox DocuColor2000), but recently it began to develop OEM products for driving Canon and Ricoh equipment.

There are 3 models in this family: T200e, T200 and T240. T200e and T200 form a series of products for the office printing and rapid printing markets. T200e drives Canon CLC700, 800, 900; and T200 can drive CLC1100; T240 can also drive CLC1100, and can provide more comprehensive services, including imposition software and Diamond Merge variable data software package of Splash.

The market's focus on these servers has given Splash a new direction. The company is well known in the printing and design markets, but they also want to be important players in the office printing market or the digital printing market. Splash expects these servers to help improve its position in these two markets.

14. EFI enters new markets

Unlike the special engine server that EFI has always provided, the newly developed Velocity of EFI provides network printing management, which consists of the following parts:

â‘  Velocity Balance can balance the number of printing activities on several printing machines, and can even distribute a large printing activity to many printing machines, thus effectively producing a cluster printing system.

â‘¡Velocity Split can send the printed color pages to one printing machine, and send the black and white pages to another printing machine, and these two parts of the printing work have been followed by a work order (human and machine can read), This worksheet explains how the individual page numbers will be regrouped. Automatic binding equipment from some vendors can support this operation.

â‘¢Velocity Design is a variable data printing application software.

â‘£Velocity attachment will provide multi-RIP processing, asset management and workflow automation.

Outlook: Velocity is a major technological advancement of EFI. It has a very solid position in the stand-alone server market, but it has not yet addressed the issue of multi-machine management. If price competition enters the color print server market (which already has such signs), then Velocity's success will be very important for the future of EFI. Velocity opens new markets and provides new opportunities for future development.

15. T / R Systems is changing sales channels

For the first time, T / R Systems is not proposing the concept of cluster printing. It is expanding its product line by introducing low-end servers of the "WG" series. At the same time, it also extended its development to ordinary printing controllers, and proposed a special concept of clustering. The standard high-end server (in the future "DP" series) will have dual CPUs, while "WG" only has a single CPU, 500MHz processor, but its price is lower than "DP! 30% of the server price. this price.

T / R claims that it has installed more than 1050 servers, partly a series of agreements recently reached with OEMs, and is growing at a rate of 70% per year. T / R has been committed to building an independent vendor network in the past, but has now shifted its focus to agreements with OEMs. With the development of the ideal interface, about 6 companies (the last of which is Toshiba) will enter the market to sell, provide services and technical support. We have previously reported transactions with Minolta, Ricoh, and Hitachi for the cluster printing system developed by MicroPress and Toshiba's printing-copying dual-use machines.

T / R expects to sell 85% of its production through OEM partners within two years.

T / R's future marketing target will be the office, but since the company started from printing, it is believed that there will still be many opportunities in printing applications for a long time.

Ricoh's further development: Ricoh and T / R announced that the Ricoh Aficio printing press driven by the MicroPress system will be launched. The latest Aficio850 black and white printing machine with a printing speed of 85 pages per minute was jointly exhibited by Ricoh's Ikon in a cluster environment. It is still immature to put the 850 into the market, but once it is perfected, the Micropress system will support up to 12 Aficio 850s printing presses through its functions, and obtain a theoretical production capacity of more than 1,000 pages per minute.

16. PODI establishes the PPML standard

PODI (The Print on Demand Initiative) is a joint organization that organizes the sales of on-demand printing equipment and software. They have developed a standard for variable data printing, called PPML (Personalized Print Mardup Language). The standard is a carrier for converting software-generated variable data printing to a printing system for output. Usually when setting up a variable data printing, you must first know the output device that uses the type of preservation. PPML guarantees that the printing job established through it can be effectively output through multiple output devices, and there is no need to determine the output device before establishing the printing job.

After carefully considering many factors, the PODI standard-setting organization decided to adopt XML as the basis of the PPML language. PPML provides a way to determine which part of the printing job is changed and which part is unchanged, so the printing machine can store the unchanged part, which can avoid the repeated rasterization of the constant part of the printing process many times Such as images and templates). PPML can indicate how the entire printing job is encoded and allows any kind of file format included in the printing job. The details of this standard are available in advance.

Companies participating in PPML include Adobe, Agfa, Barco Graphics, EFI, IBM, Indigo, Nexpress, Pageflex, Oce, Scitex, Xeikon, and Xerox. Some of these companies exhibited products implementing the PPML standard at Drupa.

The lack of standards will undoubtedly hinder the development of variable data printing, and the PPML standard has made it a big step forward. The people who worked for this standard are worth celebrating.

But we doubt whether this standard itself can make a huge leap in variable data printing. There are other issues that deserve attention, such as the lack of skilled technicians with design, prepress, and database skills; the difficulty of finding and building a suitable database for many potential projects; and the relatively high color digital printing cost. These problems are not easy to solve in the short term, so we expect stable development in the field of variable data printing.

High Gloss White Whiteboard

The bright and classic high gloss white color, the most common in whiteboard, is almost suitable any surroundings.

  • Creation of whiteboard surfaces that can be wiped off dry
  • Daily changing writings in schools, nurseries, seminar rooms, children rooms
  • Restoration of old whiteboards
  • Writings can be wiped off without leaving ghostings
