Common problems in the printing workshop: the tone becomes deeper

The halftone dots of the printed matter are larger than the original (film, printing plate), which is called darker tone. In order to measure the degree of darkening of the tone, it is necessary to use a solid block of the color and a defined dot block for comparison. The tone darkening may have occurred during the prepress processing stage. Although network expansion is inevitable in lithography, it cannot exceed a certain value. The deepening of the tone is mainly determined by the following factors: the type and amount of ink, the temperature of the ink roller system, the surface characteristics of the substrate, the release characteristics of the blanket, the quality of the fountain solution and the amount of water in the bucket.

• Choose the ink series you are familiar with, try not to use ink additives and print within the standard density range
• When printing in four colors, it should be considered that the black version will have an additional 2% dot expansion value than other color versions;
• Choose high quality and stable black ink;
• The temperature of the ink roller system should be set at 27 ~ 30 ° C;
• Try to avoid replacing substrates with different performances during the printing process;
• The pressure between the plate cylinder and the rubber cylinder should be strictly between 0.10-0.13mm;
• The printing pressure should be set according to the surface condition of the substrate to avoid excessive pressure;
• Try to use the same type of blanket;
• Try to use certified cleaning agents;
• After the new rubber is installed, clean the surface of the protective layer of talc powder with clean water;
• The new blanket should go through a re-tightening process after being used for a period of time;
• Control the amount of water slightly higher than the dirty bottom point and accurately maintain the water and ink balance in this state;
• Use visual inspection to check the change of halftone color patches around 75%.
