Types and characteristics of glazing paint

Due to the diversification of printing processes and diversified printing products, glazing coatings must adapt to different processes and different needs of different products. Glazing is an important process for post-press processing of printed matter. It has a wide range of applications and increasing demand. Therefore, the printing industry, chemical industry and other related industries attach great importance to the development, development and production of glazing coatings. In the early days, there were few varieties of glazing paint and the process was simple. Nowadays, glazing paints have formed a diversified and multi-variety series of products. Different glazing paints have different characteristics.

Solvent coating

Solvent-based glazing paint is the earliest glazing paint used in China. When this type of glazing paint is applied to the surface of the printed matter, it is heated by infrared rays, part of the organic solvent in the coating evaporates, and the mold-forming resin remains on the surface of the printed matter to form a bright Films and mold-forming resins are thermoplastic resins. The resins do not undergo polymerization and cross-linking reactions during film formation. The solvent-based glazing equipment has a small investment and low cost, and is suitable for glazing large-scale printed products. However, because the solvent uses benzene, lipid and alcohol solvents, the solvent evaporates or remains on the printed matter, which will cause pollution to the environment and be harmful to the human body. Therefore, with the development of the economy, people's awareness of environmental protection has been strengthened, and the application range of solvent-based glazing has been increasingly restricted, and there is a tendency to be replaced and eliminated in the future.

Oil-based coating

Oil-type glazing paint is suitable for glazing of early offset printing machines, and its properties are the same as those of offset printing inks. The paint is used to print the entire surface of the printed matter by printing. The coating and the oxygen in the air undergo oxidative polymerization to dry the conjunctiva. There are two types of varnish for offset printing: ordinary varnish and quick-setting varnish. The former has a slow drying speed and the latter has a fast drying speed. Both are suitable for different grades of printed matter. Oil-based glazing coatings for offset printing, with fast printing speed, thin coating, general brightness and protection, are suitable for glazing large-scale printed products with high quality.

Waterborne coating

The water-based glazing paint uses water as a solvent, and there is no volatile matter of organic solvents during the drying process on foot, so it is colorless, non-toxic and non-irritating. No pollution to the environment and harm to the human body. The new water-based glazing coating has stable performance, fast drying speed, transparent coating, good gloss, and abrasion resistance, water resistance, chemical resistance, and heat resistance. The heat sealability and the adaptability of post-press processing are relatively good, and the transportation is convenient, safe and reliable. Therefore, the use of water-based glazing coatings is becoming more and more widely used in the packaging of tobacco, pharmaceuticals, food, cosmetics and other commodities, especially the packaging of export commodities.

UV coating

UV is the abbreviation of ultravialet (ultraviolet light). UV glazing paint relies on the irradiation of ultraviolet light to make the curing reaction inside the paint dry, and the light curing speed is fast and completed in an instant. After UV glazing, the printed matter has high surface gloss and good abrasion resistance. The glazed products are not sticky. They can be stacked and stored offline, and can be processed after printing. Due to the fast drying speed of UV glazing, they can be widely used. Printed materials are glazed online, and UV glazing paints do not have solvent volatilization during the glazing process, and 100% participate in the reaction, so they will not cause environmental pollution and are harmless to humans.

UV glazing paint can be used for the entire surface gloss, and can also be used for local glazing. Because the price of UV glazing paint is relatively high, it is suitable for glazing book covers and high-end packaging and printing products.

Thermosetting coating

This type of glazing coating contains a catalyst and the molding resin polymer structure contains active functional groups. When the coating is exposed to heat, a cross-linking reaction will occur to dry it into a film. Thermosetting glazing coatings are mainly used for web multicolor offset printing. The printing machine is glazed immediately after printing. The printing machine is equipped with a drying device, which can be folded and pasted immediately after printing and glazing.
