Challenging substrates

For many years, the corrugated paper manufacturing industry has been working hard to produce strong and durable cartons. Its products are used to package and transport various products produced by customers. However, after the carton has become an ordinary product and quality service has become an obligation, people begin to feel satisfied with the product and the market competition becomes dull. How can the corrugated industry start to compete again and win higher market share?
The retail industry has been developing towards the trend of selling goods at the point of sale. There is no doubt that the packaging of products should be more attractive to customers, for this customer has put forward new requirements:
1. More complex graphics;
2. Let the customer be surprised at the image;
3. Faster production speed
4. Lower prices.
Over the past few years, a certain degree of technological progress has been made in printing presses, substrates, inks, and printing plates. Today, printers have had powerful tools to effectively compete. The new vacuum pad printing press, with fine corrugated, stronger printing materials, and ink that can be quickly dried and more easily decomposed can help printers to increase their competitiveness.
With this new type of solid corrugated board, printers can improve the quality of their products, whether it is screen printing or four-color or field printing. This new type of linerboard has a white surface with a certain physical appearance, but it also poses a series of challenges to printers and related suppliers. For the needs of the respective market, packagers use finer corrugated stabilizers, which vary in texture, hole shape and coating amount.
Liner paper Let's take a quick look at the types of liners that are widely used today. These liners are (abbreviation): natural color kraft paper, dyed kraft paper, bleached kraft paper, C-white paper, lightly coated paper 1 (LC1), high-strength bleached paper (HH Bleac), high-intensity bleached F-paper (HHB - Fflute), double coated paper 1 (DC1), light coated paper 2 (LC2), and double coated paper 2 (DC2). In addition, there are a lot of printing materials on the market, not to make too many statements.
The major problems in today's corrugated board printing are:
A: The cleanliness of printed products;
B: strength;
C: density;
D: excellent adhesion;
E: printing speed;
F: A variety of screens and complex graphics.
Cardboard Experiments Sun Chemical conducted an experimental project to better predict the printing effects of different types of liners. The only variable for this experiment is the liner (substrate). Let the following items be constant:
The ink viscosity was measured using a 2 EZ cup for 35±2 seconds.
1.PH value is 9.0±0.4
2. Print red on each sheet with 165 lpi screens.
Print high-gloss red on high-quality paper and measure the DE, density, gloss of the ink, gloss of the substrate, brightness, print quality, visual inspection, strength, and color.
Although the factors of dot gain were not considered in this experiment, it is very important. Print dot gain on uncoated materials must be larger than the coating material. In addition, the optical dot gain value is greatest at the midtones (approximately 50% dot percentage). Among the many factors, such as volume, plate hardness, or total number of prints, the amount of ink applied to the paper has the greatest effect on dot gain.
The surface of the low-grade paper is rough, uncoated, and easily absorbs ink, thereby causing the ink to spread before drying, thereby reducing the glossiness and saturation of the color, and increasing the dot gain, and the print also loses its attractiveness. On the coating material, if the printing operator wishes to increase the density of the solid area of the image, there is a possibility that dots will be filled, and the graphic appears dirty.
Stan Rosen, a graduate student at the RIT Academy, confirmed this problem in an experiment. He further pointed out that as the quality of paper increases, the density of ink in the field will also increase. The amount of ink will also lead to the expansion of outlets, not just the paper itself. When testing printers, plates, paper, and inks, dot gain should be handled and adjusted.
