Waste plastics produce strong polymers

Recently, Italian scientists invented a new technology for producing high-strength and high-value polymers from a mixture of waste plastics.

Scientists said that this route is to decompose the molecules of waste plastics, and then these molecules are recombined into synthetic molecules to produce uniform melting. The latest method is to add solid carbon dioxide (ie, dry ice) to the mixture. The carbon dioxide becomes liquid under a certain pressure, causing a slight explosion like the collision of hot balls. Part of the carbon dioxide evaporates into gas in seconds. The result is various molecules. Fragments react rapidly with unpaired electrons at the ends of the decomposition chain and recombine rapidly to form a solid new polymer.

It is reported that these composite materials have the same strength as pure polyethylene and are as hard and durable as PVC plastic.
