Heat-treated material is a new type of modified treatment material, which is increasingly valued for its strong moisture resistance, high dimensional stability, corrosion resistance, weather resistance, safety and environmental protection, uniform color and easy storage.

The study of wood heat treatment began in the 1920s, but it has been commercialized until nearly a decade. Commercial applications of wood heat treatment technology include: Thermo Wood in Finland, Plato Wood in the Netherlands, Retification in France and Le Bois Perdure in Germany. Wood heat treatment temperature is usually 160-260 ° C, depending on the heat treatment process parameters or the condition of the wood, such as treatment steps, treatment media, wood specifications and moisture content.

Many studies have shown that the corrosion resistance of heat-treated materials is enhanced, but not all the heat-resistance materials have improved corrosion resistance, and it is necessary to adopt appropriate treatment temperature and treatment time in order to achieve specific corrosion resistance requirements for wood products. Japanese scholars have studied the indoor corrosion resistance and anthill resistance of Plato heat-treated materials in the Netherlands. The results show that the quality loss rate of heat-treated materials is 10%-40.9% due to the damage of decaying bacteria; the mass loss rate after termite erosion is > 10%. It shows that heat treatment does not completely replace the anti-corrosion treatment of wood.

The research and production of heat-treated materials in China is at a preliminary stage, and the current commercialization scale is small. The research on the wear resistance of the heat-treated materials of Chinese fir and southern pine proved that when the treatment temperature reached 220 °C, the corrosion resistance of the heat-treated materials could reach the level 1 strong corrosion resistance.

Entrusted by the company, the author has tested and evaluated the indoor and outdoor burial resistance of Pinus sylvestris var. mongolica. It aims to provide a basis for the determination of heat treatment process parameters of the production enterprises, and to accumulate data for the formulation of relevant standards for heat treatment materials.
